Heya! So this is the first ever website I have started and I think it shall be just an online journal of my chemistry expireience so far as a chemistry major! The main content of this journal will be of the various expirements I have done so far in this summer program I am in. Exciting!
So to map out the basics of what I have been doing in this whole program is the use of aryl bromides in grignard reactions to create a grignard reagent. This was then catalyzed using a molybdenum catalyst that would then create a phosphine oxide. The use that we would get out of these phosphine oxides is the purification of rare earth metals, some of which are used in everyday technology like cellphones, but you most likely already knew that.
These aryl bromides to be specific were 3-bromobenzotrifluoride, and 1-bromo-3,5-dimethoxybenzene.
